photo_martaadelsmanI don’t recall when the seed was first planted. I know I had been pregnant for years with the idea to put some of my newspaper columns into book form. When I heard about a local Author’s Forum to be held two months away, I decided to go for it. How difficult could it be to have the book ready?

I chose the columns, set up the manuscript in the self-publishing format required, and prepared the cover.  Things sailed along pretty smoothly until the last week of July.  I couldn’t seem to perform one vital technical task in my manuscript before I submitted it for review and publication.  I worked long hours for several days to find a way around the obstacle. Cornville AZ (September 23, 2014) – Forest Service officials from the Red Rock District will be guests of the Cornville Community Association at its monthly community meeting at 6 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Oak Creek School, 11490 Purple Sage Road, in Cornville.  The meeting will provide an important opportunity for residents to meet Nicole Branton, new District Ranger, along with Tony Papa and Miguel Macias, who will invite public dialogue about motorized (ATV, dirt bike) use on National Forest lands in the Cornville area. No RSVP is necessary.

The Partnership welcomes guest speaker Brenda Smith, Assistant Field Supervisor for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), to discuss some of the biological and resource values of the Verde River Watershed, focusing on threatened, endangered, and other rare and imperiled species. The USFWS has an important role in the recovery and conservation efforts for these species, and Ms. Smith will explain some of what the agency’s interest and responsibilities are in this area. World War I Symposium at Yavapai College, Nov. 6-8

logo_yavapaicollegeClarkdale AZ (October 1, 2014) – In recognition of Veterans Day, the public is invited to attend Yavapai College’s “The First World War Symposium: A Series of Interdisciplinary Lectures Presented by the Faculty of Yavapai College.” The lecture series runs November 6-8 at both the Prescott and Clarkdale campuses, and attendance is free.

The symposium commemorates 100 years since the start of World War I, in 1914. Four years later, a cease-fire was enacted on November 11. U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the first anniversary of November 11 a celebration of this armistice as a day to reflect upon the service of those who sacrificed for their country during the First World War. Fugitive Wade Dickinson Arrested in Las Vegas

logo_ycsoCamp Verde AZ (September 23, 2014) – Last night [September 22] at approximately 7 PM, Wade Dickinson, now 29, was located and arrested within an apartment building in Las Vegas. A team of the deputies from the US Marshalls Service, working with YCSO detectives who had recently arrived in Las Vegas to assist, developed information indicating the likelihood Dickinson was staying in a particular apartment building near the airport and adjacent to the strip. Following surveillance activities, Dickinson’s presence was confirmed and he was arrested on the fugitive warrant inside one of the apartments without incident. Read More→

New 2013 Census Arizona Poverty Data Released;
Includes All 9 Congressional Districts

logo_assocarizonafoodbanksPhoenix AZ (September 23, 2014) – The U.S. Census Bureau released new American Community Survey (ACS) data last week showing 18.6% of individuals and 26.5% of children under the age of 18 in Arizona lived in poverty in 2013.  Both figures are slight declines from the 2012 poverty rates of 18.7% and 27.0%, respectively, but for Arizonans living in poverty, their plight remained essentially unchanged from 2012.  However, counties and rural areas with already high individual and child poverty rates saw their plight worsen.  Read More→

Prescott Vet donates Procedure to Save a YCSO K9

logo_ycsoPrescott AZ (September 23, 2014) – Recently YCSO K9 Deputy Randy Evers took his companion and law enforcement partner, “Neo,” to the veterinarian out of concern the K9 was not eating and acting very lethargic. A mass was discovered in Neo’s abdomen and there was fear it could be cancer. In order to check the mass, surgery would be required and the cost would nearly eliminate the budget designated for vet care involving the complete K9 team.
