**“Meet the Baby” Book Signing**
I don’t recall when the seed was first planted. I know I had been pregnant for years with the idea to put some of my newspaper columns into book form. When I heard about a local Author’s Forum to be held two months away, I decided to go for it. How difficult could it be to have the book ready?
I chose the columns, set up the manuscript in the self-publishing format required, and prepared the cover. Things sailed along pretty smoothly until the last week of July. I couldn’t seem to perform one vital technical task in my manuscript before I submitted it for review and publication. I worked long hours for several days to find a way around the obstacle. Cornville AZ (October 2, 2014) – UPDATE – Cornville resident Herald Herrington has just been elected to the board of Yavapai Community College. At the October 8th meeting of the Cornville Community Association, he will share the results of a recent Customer Service survey that researched what the communities on this side of the mountain have requested from YCC.

Clarkdale AZ (October 1, 2014) – In recognition of Veterans Day, the public is invited to attend Yavapai College’s “The First World War Symposium: A Series of Interdisciplinary Lectures Presented by the Faculty of Yavapai College.” The lecture series runs November 6-8 at both the Prescott and Clarkdale campuses, and attendance is free.

Clarkdale AZ (September 24, 2014) – “Brown Bag Brain Buzz” is a new lunchtime discussion series on “Great People and Big Ideas” that have shaped the course of human history. OLLI (The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) of Sedona/Verde is offering this series to the public free of charge as part of their tenth anniversary celebration. There will be a different topic each week. Respected members of the OLLI community will make a short presentation followed by open discussion.
Camp Verde AZ (September 23, 2014) – Last night [September 22] at approximately 7 PM, Wade Dickinson, now 29, was located and arrested within an apartment building in Las Vegas. A team of the deputies from the US Marshalls Service, working with YCSO detectives who had recently arrived in Las Vegas to assist, developed information indicating the likelihood Dickinson was staying in a particular apartment building near the airport and adjacent to the strip. Following surveillance activities, Dickinson’s presence was confirmed and he was arrested on the fugitive warrant inside one of the apartments without incident.
Phoenix AZ (September 23, 2014) – The U.S. Census Bureau released new American Community Survey (ACS) data last week showing 18.6% of individuals and 26.5% of children under the age of 18 in Arizona lived in poverty in 2013. Both figures are slight declines from the 2012 poverty rates of 18.7% and 27.0%, respectively, but for Arizonans living in poverty, their plight remained essentially unchanged from 2012. However, counties and rural areas with already high individual and child poverty rates saw their plight worsen.

Cottonwood AZ (September 21, 2014) – The League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley is hosting a forum on the Yavapai County Jail Tax to be held on October 2, 2014. Voters will have an opportunity hear the background, the proposal, the facts about this proposal, and some of the issues around this proposal such as housing those with mental health issues in jail. This is an information meeting and an opportunity to ask your questions about the sales tax proposal. The sales tax proposal is on the November 4 election ballot.
